Speakers highlight legal, social implications of Article 370 abrogation

Karachi: Speakers at a seminar in Karachi highlighted the legal and social implications for the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir following the illegal abrogation of Article 370.

The seminar titled ‘The Abrogation of Article 370: Political and Social Implications’ was organized by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter in collaboration with Sindh Madrasahtul Islam University Karachi. The event brought together scholars, legal experts, and activists to discuss the ramifications of this pivotal constitutional change and its impact on the socio-political and legal landscape of the territory.

The seminar featured a series of presentations and discussions led by esteemed speakers, including legal scholars, human rights activists, and representatives from various organizations advocating for the rights of Kashmiris.

Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madrasahtul Islam University Karachi, Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon, presided over the event, while Convener of APHC-AJK, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, was the chief guest. Chairman of the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR), Altaf Hussain Wani, General Secretary of APHC-AJK, Advocate Parvaiz Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Shaista Tabassum, and Dr. Huma Riaz Dar also spoke at the event.

The speakers debated the constitutional legality of the illegal abrogation, examining the processes followed by the Indian government and the potential violations of international law. The event featured testimonies from Kashmiri activists who shared their experiences and the challenges faced by the local population since the abrogation of Article 370 in the disputed territory.

The seminar also explored the social ramifications of the abrogation, including increased militarization, displacement of local populations, and the erosion of cultural identity.

The seminar concluded with a strong call for solidarity among academic institutions, civil society organizations, and the international community to advocate for the rights of Kashmiris. Participants stressed the importance of raising awareness about the situation in IIOJK and supporting peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflict.
