International day for victims of Enforced Disappearances: APHC protests outside Islamabad press club
All Parties Hurriyet Conference (Azad Kashmir Chapter) organized peaceful protest in front of Islamabad Press Club here on 30 August Monday. The protest was organized to commemorate victims of Enforced Disappearances in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir on International day of victims of Enforced Disappearances.
The APHC leaders said that around 8,000-10,000 civilians have been subjected to enforced disappearances in Kashmir since 1989 according to the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP).
The International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance codifies individuals’ right to be free from enforced disappearances in all circumstances. However, since India signed but did not ratify the convention, it is not entirely bound by its provisions.
The participants called United Nations and other human rights organizations to support Kashmir’s right of self determination and take strict action against India for its violation of human and fundamental rights in Indian occupied Kashmir.
The other leaders present in the expressed their grief over the daily atrocities, barbarism and killings in Kashmir.
The other speakers urged United Nations and other human rights organisations to intervene in Kashmir who are suffering from last 7 decades. International community should pressurize India to stop gross human rights violations in Kashmir, they added.
