APHC AJK organises seminar in Islamabad on Right to Self Determination Day

Islamabad: A seminar was organized in Islamabad, today, by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter in connection with the Right to Self-Determination Day.

The chief guests of the seminar were former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and diplomat Masood Ahmed Khan, while Gilgit-Baltistan Spokesperson Faizullah Firaq and former convener of the Azad Kashmir branch of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference, Muhammad Farooq Rahmani, also addressed the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, the speakers highlighted the importance of the resolution passed by the United Nations on January 5, 1949 on Kashmir. They said that this resolution provides the basis for the freedom struggle of the Kashmiris and the right to self-determination of Kashmiris has been recognized in this resolution.

The speakers said that Kashmiris have made unprecedented sacrifices for achieving the right to self-determination and this process continues even today. They said despite using all resources, India has failed to suppress the freedom struggle of Kashmiris.

They urged India to create a conducive environment for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue by recognizing the ground realities.

The speakers appealed to the United Nations to implement its resolutions on the Kashmir conflict and urged the United Nations and international human rights organizations to take note of the increasing human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to put pressure on India to stop the ongoing atrocities in the territory.

They said that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute is indispensable for the establishment of lasting peace in South Asia. The speakers said that the United Nations was formed to ensure world peace and if there was any serious threat to world peace at the moment, it was the non-resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

The speakers termed the Indian steps of August 5, 2019, to revoke the special status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as illegal, unconstitutional and contrary to international laws and UN resolutions.

At the end of the seminar, special prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the martyrs of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
