Gaw Kadal Massacre, 21 January 1990

The Gawkadal massacre was named after the Gawkadal bridge in Srinagar, Kashmir, where, on 21 January 1990, the Indian paramilitary troops of the Central Reserve Police Force opened fire on a group of Kashmiri protesters. At least 50 people were killed. According to survivors, the actual death toll may have been as high as 280.The massacre happened two days after the Government of India appointed Jagmohan as the Governor for a second time in a bid to control the mass protests by Kashmiris.

Handwara Massacre, 25 January 1990,

The Handwara massacre refers to the killing of 21 protesters in downtown Handwara on 25 January 1990.

Kupwara Massacre, 27 January 1990.

Kupwara massacre refers to an incident that took place in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on 27 January 1994. The incident took place at 11 am on that day. The Indian army killed 27 persons and injuring 38 persons by open firing randomly in all directions.

Zakura and Tengpora Massacre, 01 March 1990

The Zakura And Tengpora Massacre was the killing of protesters calling for the implementation of a United Nations resolution regarding the plebiscite in Kashmir at Zakura Crossing and Tengpora Bypass Road in Srinagar on 1 March 1990, in which 3 people were killed and 14 injured by Indian forces.

Hawal Massacre, 21 May 1990

The 1990 Hawal Massacre was named after the Hawal area of Srinagar, Kashmir, where, on 21 May 1990, the Indian paramilitary troops of the Central Reserve Police Force opened fire on the peaceful funeral procession which was carrying the body of Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq. Over 60 were killed and 200 were injured in the massacre and this remains to be one of the deadliest massacres in Kashmir

Sopore Massacre, 06 January 1993

The Sopore massacre refers to the alleged killing of at least 54 civilians by the Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) on 6 January 1993. More than 350 shops and residential houses were also gutted on this day in 1993 after Indian soldiers set the Sopore town ablaze.

Bijbehara massacre 22 October 1993

On the afternoon of October 22, 1993, Border Security Force opened fire in Bijbehara town, killing at least 51 civilians and wounding over 200 who were protesting against the siege of Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar.
