APHC raises concern over plight of Kashmiri detainees

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has expressed serious concern over the continued illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists and inhuman treatment being meted out to them by the communal authorities in jails.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that more than 4,000 illegally detained Hurriyat leaders, activists and Kashmiri youth are facing hell-like situations in various jails of India and IIOJK. He said that these detainees are being denied basic facilities including hygienic food and medical care.

The spokesman said the incarcerated leaders and activists, representing the freedom sentiments of the people of Kashmir have dedicated their lives and honour for the sacred cause of freedom from Indian subjugation. The detainees including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi, Naheeda Nasreen, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Merajuddin Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Bilal Siddiqi, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Dr Hameed Fayaz, Noor Muhammad Fayaz, Advocate Zahid Ali, Zafar Akbar Butt, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Firdous Ahmed Shah, Jahangir Ghani Butt, Saleem Nanaji, Sarjan Barkati, human rights defender Khurrum Parvaiz, and journalist Sajjad Ahmad Dar, are the worst victims of political vendetta. He said they have been lodged in jails on fabricated charges.

The spokesman urged the world human rights organizations including the UN Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and International Committee of Red Cross to take cognizance of the plight of the Kashmiri prisoners and play an effective role in their release.
